概要 【Overview】
1980年代のパウエル・ペラルタの通称マルチと呼ばれるテストプリントTシャツ。
生産者がプリントの入り具合を確認するために一枚の無地のTシャツへ無作為にプリントしたもの。
テストプリントのため通常は廃棄されるものであるが、市場に出回り、二枚とないデザインのためか逆に最も希少価値が高く位置付けられている。
This is a 1980s Powell Peralta test print t-shirt, commonly known as a multi.
It was printed randomly on a plain t-shirt by the producer in order to check the print quality.
These t-shirts are usually discarded because they are test prints, but they are now available on the market and are considered to be the rarest and most valuable because there is no other design like them.

スケートTシャツの価値はサイジングにもあります。
それはスケートファッションのシーンにおいて80年代以降、特に80年代中期以降からのストリートファッションシーンはオーバーサイジングが主流であり、どのジャンルでも精通する事実でもありました。
故にサイズが小さいスケートTというのは、そもそも需要が無かったためか、パウエルをはじめとしたヴィンテージスケートTで見る表記サイズは最低でもLが主流であり、価値が認められるサイズはXLです。
もちろん他の小さいサイズもありますが、オーバーサイズで着用することに意味があるとされ、ジャストサイズで着用するなんてむしろ古い、ダサいとすらされてしまう空気感であったことが伺えます。
先輩が委託販売していたパウエルのTシャツの話を聞いた時に「多分売れるだろうけどMなんだよね、、」と仰っていたことを思い出しました。
何故Mサイズであることを憂いていたのだろうと当時疑問に思っていましたが、その後スケートカルチャーを学んだ時にその疑問が解消されました。
何故このようなエピソードを持ち出したかと言うと、このTシャツはキッズサイズだったんですね。
もちろんキッズサイズとはいえ、マルチを紹介できたことは嬉しかったのですが、その時は既にスケートTのサイズ価値を理解していたので、嬉しい気持ちよりキッズサイズか、、と落胆した気持ちの方が強かったです。
それでもマルチはマルチ。存在そのものにサイズを超えた価値というものがあるのもまた事実で、サイジングと価値を踏まえた提供をした一枚です。

Of course, there were other small sizes, but it was considered meaningful to wear oversized tees, and it was considered old-fashioned and tacky to wear just the right size.
When I saw the Powell’s t-shirts that my senior colleague was selling on consignment, I remembered that he said, “They’ll probably sell, but they’re a medium. At the time, I wondered why he was so worried about the size M. Later, when I learned more about skate culture, the question was cleared up.
The reason why I brought up this episode is that this T-shirt was a kid’s size.
Of course, I was happy to introduce the Multi, even though it was a kid’s size, but at that time, I already understood the value of skate t-shirt sizes. However, multi is multi.
It is also a fact that existence itself has a value that goes beyond size, and this is a piece that I offered based on sizing and value.
