デフ・レパードの1981年リリースの「ハイ＆ドライ」のTシャツで、同作品からのアートワークのプリント。
至ってシンプルで、コテコテのハードロックTらしからぬデザインでバンTを始めるには丁度良いデザインだと思います。
と、商品説明であればここまでなのですが、デフ・レパードで言いたいことは、まずドラマーのリック・アレンです。
自分自身未だに高校時代の友人とバンド活動をしていて、ドラムを叩いているのですが、リック・アレンは当時愛読していたドラムマガジンで知りました。
ご存知の方も多いかと思いますが、彼は片腕を事故で失ってしまったのにも関わらず、片腕でドラミングが可能な電子ドラムを制作してもらい、死に物狂いで練習してデフ・レパードの音楽を支え続け、活動を辞めるという選択をしなかったのです。
この事実は自分を奮い立たせるものがありました。
言うほど練習もできていないですが、彼の姿を見て勇気をもらいましたし、本当にこの頃から自分の五体、五感のいずれかを失った時のことを想定するようになりました。
例えば視覚を失った場合の生き方や歩行が不自由になってしまった場合の身の振り方、考え方です。
よほどのことがない限りその様な事態にはならないとは思いますが、誰しも予定調和の未来など用意されていないのです。
そして、どこかで不測の事態が起きた時のことを想定しろと自分の中でシグナルが鳴っています。
多分それは不測の事態に陥った時に最悪の選択をしたいための防衛本能なのかなと自分を納得させています。

It’s very simple, and it’s a good design to start a band t-shirt with, as it’s not a hard rock t-shirt.
The first thing I would like to say about Def Leppard is the drummer Rick Allen.
I still play drums in a band with my friends from high school, and I learned about Rick Allen from Drum Magazine, which I loved to read at the time.
As many of you may know, he lost one of his arms in an accident, but he had an electronic drum made that allowed him to drum with one arm, and he continued to support Def Leppard’s music by practicing to the death and never chose to quit.
This fact inspired me to keep going.
I didn’t practice as much as I should have, but seeing him gave me courage, and I really started to think about what would happen if I lost one of my five bodies or senses.
For example, how I would live if I lost my sight, or how I would behave and think if I lost the ability to walk.
I don’t think such a situation will happen unless there is something wrong with me, but no one has a planned future.
And somewhere along the line, a signal is going off inside of you that you should be prepared for the unexpected.
I’ve convinced myself that it’s probably a defense instinct to make the worst possible choice when the unexpected happens.
