AKIRAの出会いは幼少期まで遡ります。
初めてAKIRAを認識したのは小学生低学年の頃で、リビングの片隅にページの端がやたらカラフルな雑誌が置いてあることに気が付き、物珍しく手に取った本が雑誌とも言うべきサイズ感のあるAKIRAの単行本でした。
ただ、中を見るまではそれが全部マンガだったとは夢にも思わず、ページの端に色が付いていること、本の大きさ、分厚さが自分の認識していた雑誌や単行本と異なっていたことがまず衝撃的で、少しページをめくってみると、その本がマンガであることを認識するのですが、半信半疑でこの中身が全てマンガなのかどうか？を確認する作業からはじめてましたね。
また、本の大きさや分厚さに比例せずにコマ割りが細かかったので，当時の自分は全く読みもせず匙を投げてしまいました。
思えば、あの時からAKIRAを読み込んでいたとしたら、人生を左右するような感性が芽生えていたかもしれません。
その後、目の前の友人達との交流や、恋愛など、ごく一般的な青春時代を過ごし、アパレルやアートに目が向いていったのは10代後半頃からで、20代は周りの人間関係が成熟しつつも、自分の内面とも言うべき趣味嗜好にも深く突き進んでいました。
その頃、再び映像作品としてAKIRAと再会します。
この時は過去作品もDVD化されていましたから、今のサブスク程ではありませんが、過去の映像作品へ手を伸ばすことも容易になっていた頃でした。
実を言うと、大友作品の映像を最初に観たのはAKIRAではなく、スチームボーイでした。
大友作品は、何と表現すれば良いのか、文章だと難しいのですが、
「リアル過ぎずリアルで、SF過ぎずSF」
というバランスが絶妙で、この絶妙さが手に届きそうな親近感を感じられ、「あり得ない未来ではないのかも」というような期待や不安、気持ちの高揚といった、人間の感情を強く刺激する作用があって、作品が面白かったとか、面白くなかったで終わるようなものでなく、ずっと自分の中に残り続けるんですよね。
それこそが、大友作品の素晴らしいところであって、長きに渡り支持され続けられる理由であるかなあと思います。
キャラクター設定や劇中で登場するギミックもカッコよくて、世界的にも支持されているわけですから、当時のヴィンテージTシャツに価値が高まるのは自然の摂理とも言うべき事象です。
自分自身が幸運にもAKIRAのTシャツを手にした2010年頃ですら、激しい仕入れ競争にさらされていましたから、10年先の未来では、もはや博物館級の扱いとして崇められていると言っても過言ではありません。

At that time, past works were also available on DVD, so it was easier for me to reach out to past works, although not to the same extent as today’s sub-subsquare works.
To tell the truth, the first Otomo film I saw was not AKIRA, but Steamboy.

The characters and the gimmicks used in the film are cool, and the worldwide popularity of the film makes it only natural that the value of vintage T-shirts from that time period would increase.
Even in 2010, when I was lucky enough to get my hands on an AKIRA T-shirt, there was fierce competition to purchase it, so it is no exaggeration to say that 10 years from now, it will be revered as a museum quality item.
