サイケデリック・ファーズはイギリス出身のポストパンクバンドということで、そもそもポストパンクなる言葉すら知らなかったわけですが、買い付けの際にいちいち知らないことを細かに調べてる余裕などはありません。
ネットオークションならまだしも、現地でのスワップミートのような買い付けの場合は争奪戦なので、そこは完全に直感勝負で、とりあえず目に付いたものは囲っておいて、後から選別していく、、というような手法となるものの、フリーマーケットは他ブースもあるわけですから、正確さとスピードが勝る者が良質なアイテムを集めることが可能となります。
その正確さとスピードを養うためにも、気が狂う程の商品を見なくてはならず、それでも未知の製品を目にするので、日々鍛錬を欠かすことはありません。
そうすることによって、未知と遭遇した際の判断基準が自然と構築されていて、購入するべきか否かの判断スピードも加速していきますから、それが自身のセンスに武装されて型となると考えます。
サイケデリック・ファーズとの出会いは正に未知との遭遇でしたが、これまでの経験を総動員することにより、上代と下代、製品に対する想いを瞬時に自分の中で整理して「購入」という判断に至りました。
最初は袖先がカットオフされたもの、その後全く同じデザインで通常のTシャツのものと通算2枚の縁がありました。
未知のものを値段付けする時にはリサーチをするものですが、ヴィンテージは一点ものであるが故にリサーチという概念自体がそもそも通用しなかったりします。
また、仕入れ値であったり店主の感覚、想いによっても販売価格が変わってくるので、全く同じアイテムでも全然値段が違う、とか店全体の商品価格が高い、安いなどもあったりしますね。
自分の場合は高すぎず、安過ぎずというところを狙ってますが、それもあくまでも主観なので、外部の声を聞くと、高いというご意見もあれば安いというご意見も頂きます。
やはり思うところは、自分の想いやその値段にした理由の説明が自分の中でできる範囲内で、かつ説得力がある設定にすることが良いのではということですね。
Psychedelic Furs is a post-punk band from the UK, and I had never even heard of post-punk before, but there’s no time to look up every little thing you don’t know when you’re buying.
If it’s an online auction, or even a local swap meet, it’s a war of attrition, so you have to play with your instincts, keep what you see, and sort it out later. However, in a flea market, there are other booths, so the one who is more accurate and faster will be able to collect the best items.
In order to cultivate such accuracy and speed, I have to see so many products that it drives me crazy, and even then I see unknown products, so I have to train myself every day.
By doing so, you will naturally build up your judgment criteria when you encounter the unknown, and you will accelerate the speed at which you decide whether or not you should buy a product, which will arm you with your own sense of style.
My encounter with Psychedelic Furs was a true encounter with the unknown, but by mobilizing all of my past experiences, I was able to instantly sort out the top and bottom generations and my feelings about the product, and came to the decision to buy it.
Psychedelic Furs is another band that I learned about through T-shirts, first with cut-off sleeves, and then with the same design on a regular T-shirt, for a total of two.
When you price an unknown item, you have to do research, but since vintage items are one-of-a-kind, the concept of research itself may not work.
Also, the selling price depends on the price of purchase, the owner’s feeling, and his thoughts.
In my case, I aim for a price that is neither too high nor too low, but that’s just my subjective opinion, and when I listen to outside voices, I get opinions that some are high and some are low.
What I think is that it is better to set a price that is convincing and within the range that you can explain your thoughts and the reason why you set the price.
