当たり前のように聞くバンド名なども、よくよく考えたらどういう意味だろう？とふと疑問に思うこともあり、ブラック・サバスの「サバス」ってどんな意味だろうと調べたことがありました。するとサバスとは「休息日」という意味で、あ〜なるほどね、と思いました。
というのも、ブラック・サバスという言葉を知る前に、自分の場合はコーエン兄弟の「ビッグ・リボウスキ」という映画を観ていて(ちなみにレッチリのフリーも出演してます)、内容はニートのオッサン達がボウリングをガチでやり込むというストーリーですが、その中の主要人物の一のセリフで「土曜日はシャバットだ！金なんていじらないし、ボウリングなんてもっての他だ！」というのがあって、シャバットはユダヤ教やイスラム教で休息日を意味することをその時知ったので、「サバス」という言葉がすっと入ってきた、という経緯です。
正直、だからなんなの？というところもありますし、それが自分の人生の何に役立つか？と言われれば、教養以外の何物でもないのですが、疑問に感じることはすぐ調べるという行為は、物事をうやむやにする性質を消し去り、しなくてよいミスをしなくなったり、知ってることで、課題の早期解決が可能となることもあることから、日常生活を向上させることに繋がると考えます。
When I think about the names of bands that I hear as a matter of course, I sometimes wonder what they mean. So I looked up the meaning of “Sabbath” in Black Sabbath. I looked up the meaning of “Sabbath” in Black Sabbath and found out that it means “rest day.
Before I knew the word “Black Sabbath,” I had seen a movie called “The Big Lebowski” by the Coen Brothers (which also features Free from the band Retchli, by the way). One of the main characters says, “Saturday is Shabbat! I don’t mess with money, and I don’t bowl! At that time, I learned that Shabbat means a day of rest in Judaism and Islam, so the word “Sabbath” came easily to me.
To be honest, I’m not sure why. If you were to ask me what it would do for me in my life, I would say that it would help me in other ways than education. However, I believe that the act of looking up things that you have questions about can improve your daily life, because it eliminates the tendency to dwell on things, prevents you from making mistakes that you don’t have to make, and allows you to solve problems quickly by knowing about them. We believe that this will improve our daily lives.
